We now have an exciting opportunity for a Senior Production and Editorial Executive to join the Practical Action Publishing team at our office in Rugby. Working as part of a small team the role is important to the company as the successful candidate will have responsibility for the day-to-day production processes of the business including: budget setting; copyright; liaison with authors, editors, and vendors; and supervision of suppliers. Candidates should have relevant experience and feel confident utilising best practice to advance all Practical Action Publishing production work in line with industry standards.
The successful candidate will act as lead Editorial contact on Enterprise Development & Microfinance, Food Chain and Waterlines journal -- supporting the Academic editors in their role by advising on best practice and market opportunities. The Production and Editorial Executive will also act in an editorial support capacity for the book programme, working alongside the Content Development Manager and Managing Director to set the schedule and report on the programme’s overall performance. There is potential for portfolio development responsibilities depending on experience.
Educated to degree level in a relevant subject, it is essential that you have experience of editorial and/or production work in a scholarly or academic publishing context. Ideal candidates will have 1 – 3 years’ experience in a journal’s editorial role and/or 2 – 5 years of managing a production work flow. Knowledge of and interest in the academic working environment is also essential. The successful candidate will have very good English skills (French or Spanish a bonus) and will be proficient in the use of Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook and ideally have knowledge of Adobe InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator and online manuscript submissions.
Strong attention to detail, project management experience and good interpersonal and communication skills are a must.
